El Paredón is a small coastal village on Guatemala’s Pacific Coast, known for its laid-back vibe, impressive surf, and natural beauty. If you're planning a visit, one of the first questions you'll have is: How do I get there?

Here’s everything you need to know to make the journey smooth and easy.
✈️ Step 1: Arriving in Guatemala
If you’re flying into the country, your point of arrival will most likely be La Aurora International Airport (GUA) in Guatemala City. From there, you have a few different options to reach El Paredón.
🚐 Option 1: Private Shuttle (Most Comfortable)
This is the fastest and most convenient way to get to El Paredón. Whether you're traveling solo or in a group, a private shuttle can take you directly from:
Guatemala City (around 2.5–3.5 hours depending on traffic)
Antigua Guatemala (around 2–2.5 hours)
Private shuttles are ideal if you’re carrying surfboards, traveling with kids, or simply want a smooth and hassle-free ride.
🚌 Option 2: Shared Shuttle (Budget-Friendly)
Shared shuttles operate from Antigua and, occasionally, from Guatemala City. They are a great option for budget travelers, but be aware:
There may be limited departure times.
Some routes require advance booking.
Depending on passenger pick-ups, the journey may take longer.
🛻 Option 3: Public Transportation (For the Adventurous)
This is the cheapest and most adventurous way to get to El Paredón. Here's a general breakdown:
From Guatemala City or Antigua, take a bus or van to Escuintla.
From Escuintla, catch a bus or colectivo to Sipacate.
From Sipacate, take a tuk-tuk or local pickup truck to El Paredón (approx. 15–20 min).
Note: This option can be time-consuming and complicated if you don’t speak Spanish or have lots of luggage.
🚗 Can You Drive There Yourself?
Yes, driving to El Paredón is possible with a rental car. Most of the journey is on paved roads, but the final stretch may include rougher paths, especially in rainy season. Make sure to download maps in advance and be cautious driving after dark.
